Event.
The Sri Lanka Export Development Board held the Ruhunu Ran Ridee
exhibition for the 5th consecutive year. This year's event was
held at the Crescat Bquleevard Lobby, Colombo 03 from 13th to
15th December 2007 and will be open from 10.00am to 7.00pm.
The
objective of this event was to showcase the products of the small
and medium scale jewellery manufacturers and to facilitate building
relationships with prospective local and foreign buyers. There
were 13 manufacturers displaying their products. The exhibitors
were the jewellers of Southern Province and Seethawaka.
Although
in the previous years this event was held at Crescat Boulevard
in Colombo, this year the venue has been changed to the World
Trade Centre which is located in the commercial hub of the city
of Colombo.
This
show was the culmination of several programmes including training
sessions on designing, stone setting and quality improvement carried
out to upgrade the capabilities of the jewellers. These programmes
were jointly organized by the Product Management Division, Small
and Medium Enterprise Development Division along with the Regional
Office, Galle of the EDB.
The
13 participants were carefully selected by a panel of judges for
their original intricate designs and stone setting of gold and
silver jewellery.
Of special significance is the gorgeous blue sheen Moonstone deposits
found in places like Meetiyagoda in the Southern province
This
event was organized by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board
and the National Gem and Jewellery Authority.
Ruhunu
Ran Ridee Jewellery Exhibition, the most glamourous event of southern
Sri Lankan jewellers was held from 13th to 15th December 2007
at the Crescat Bquleevard Lobby, Colombo 03.
Sri
Lanka's Souther Province – “ Ruhuna” is well-known
for quality gold "Ran" and silver "Ridee"
jewellery. The exhibition brings together the traditional artistry
of the ancient Ruhunu province.
From
time immemorial Sri Lanka was known for its exquisite gems and
jewellery it produced. History reveals that ancient Sri Lankan
kings, noblemen and women often adorned themselves with jewellery
of alluring beauty. The bejeweled damsels on the Sigiriya frescoes
bear evidence for this. Even after colonization, Sri Lankan gems
and jewellery continued to adorn people around the world.
Today,
Sri Lankan jewellery attracts customers from a large number of
countries across the globe including USA. Europe and Japan . The
unmatched quality and craftsmanship of the Southern jewellers
largely contribute to this.
