The EDB facilitated the Sri Lankan educational services exports sector to participate in the 11th ECAN Education Fair which was held in Nepal from 20-23 July, providing information, coordination and financial assistance under the EDB Market Development Assistance Program.

A number of Sri Lankan education institutes, some of which are members of the Sri Lanka Association of Non-State Higher Education Institutes (SLANSHEI), are participating in this exhibition, which is a prominent educational promotional event in Nepal. Statistics indicate that Nepal has a higher annual student turnout seeking educational opportunities abroad.

Participation at this promotional event offers Sri Lankan educational institutes an ideal opportunity to meet and speak with Nepalese students and their parents for enlisting students from Nepal in their programs of studies and exchange ideas at the one-to-one meetings with Nepalese educational authorities on matters of mutual benefit.

The EDB has identified educational services as a sector with a great potential for development to be a major export service from Sri Lanka.

EDB has successfully organised its first ever Sri Lanka education services overseas promotional program in 2014 in the Maldives, which is a key market for the Sri Lankan education services sector, followed by a second such promotional in 2015 with the participation of 14 and 24 Sri Lankan educational service providers respectively.

The EDB has been exploring possibilities in other potential markets too and drawing from views expressed by associations such as the SLANSHEI and other interest groups is making plans to venture into identified markets in the Middle East and the East Asian region.

The high standards maintained by educational providers in Sri Lanka in both teaching faculties and program studies at internationally competitive rates are among the key attributes helping the Sri Lankan educational sector attract students from abroad.
