Calling for Applications - Japan Market Development Programme for ICT Companies and Tech Start-ups Under JICA Technical Cooperation 16 March 2024
The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) with the assistance of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is implementing a programme to support Sri Lankan ICT companies & Tech Start-ups, to enter the Japanese Market. The project will be implemented for a period of 2 years starting from 2024.
The selected companies will be guided, coached, and will be introduced to the Japanese market through potential events.

HOW TO APPLY Interested ICT companies & Tech Start-ups are requested to complete the online application which is available under “Announcements” on the EDB website www.srilankabusiness.com.
Duly completed applications with relevant documents should be submitted on or before 31st March, 2024. Applications will be reviewed by a Panel appointed by the EDB, and JICA Consultancy Team will make the final selections.

Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) 03 August 2023
The EU Commission by the implementing regulation - (EU) 2022/144, has entered the name ‘Ceylon Cinnamon’ to the register of Protected Designations of Origin and Protected Geographical Indications (Ceylon Cinnamon PGI) with effect from 2nd February, 2022.
The ownership and custodianship of the “Ceylon Cinnamon” is vested with the Export Development Board (EDB), in accordance with the Cabinet Memorandum approved by the Cabinet Ministers in year 2009.
The Export Development Board (EDB) is empowered to issue the license for Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) Mark pursuant to the implementing regulation - (EU) 2022/144, to the eligible stakeholders of Ceylon Cinnamon value chain who implement a control plan that complies with the stipulated GI specifications (Annexure I - Eligible stakeholders of Ceylon Cinnamon value chain).
The ‘PGI Mark” can be displayed only on value added Ceylon Cinnamon Packs including Cinnamon cut quills, Cinnamon powder, and Cinnamon leaf oil & Cinnamon bark oil containing 100% Pure Ceylon Cinnamon grown, processed, and manufactured in Sri Lanka.

The Cinnamon stakeholders who comply with the following eligibility criteria are invited to forward their applications to EDB to obtain license to use PGI mark for above mentioned Ceylon Cinnamon products.
Eligibility Criteria;
• Member of the Association for Ceylon Cinnamon Protected Geographical Indication (ACCPGI). If you are not a member of the association, please forward your application to ACCPGI (Annexure-II – Notice of ACCPGI). OR Contact the Department of Export Agriculture (DEA) office relevant to your district http://www.dea.gov.lk/contact-dist/to obtain membership of ACCPGI.
• Implementation of three levels of control in the supply chain following the guide books published referring to Ceylon Cinnamon GI specification (self-control, internal control, and external control)-Annexure-III Guide books for growers /processors/ manufacturers and exporters.
• Recommendation from the competent authority who act as external controller (Department of Export Agriculture) as a PGI farmer, processor, manufacture or exporter.
Application Guidelines;
The Cinnamon value chain players who fulfil the above three eligibility criteria are requested to submit a duly completed application form by e-mail / post to - Director/Export Agriculture Division No.42, Nawam Mawatha, Colombo-02 or through email to [email protected] along with the recommendation from the Department of Export Agriculture.
