An introduction to Kadadasi

Kadadasi is situated in a village called Bollatha. It is nestled among acres of Paddy fields, Coconut trees, marsh and woodlands; it is 14 kilometers away from Colombo, the Capital of Sri Lanka, and borders an industrial estate. It is a fast developing area on the path to losing its eco friendly nature.

The village consists of 200 families with much under employment.

Kadadasi strives to achieve a balance between our ancient tradition of being one with nature, by recycling of waste to overcome the adverse features of industrialization.

Raw materials used consist of waste from industries in the surrounding areas and of by-products of agriculture.

The work force consists of women from the village of Bollatha, and the environment friendly message is taken to their homes. This has led to income generation and improvement in their quality of life with preservation of the environment.

The industry is an eco friendly cottage industry.

In keeping with the theme the machinery was also manufactured by the village Blacksmith. The workshop was constructed essentially through the use of recycled building material on traditional lines.

It is a lesson in lending a hand to strengthen the sinews of life in keeping with the rhythm of its birth environment.
