POLYTUNNELS
The use of polytunnel production systems
has been successfully introduced for short-
season, high-value vegetable production in
the UPEPV, Welimada. The use of polytunnels
offers distinct advantages over open field
vegetable production in a number of areas:

and marketability of produce

management of crops and protection from
weather, pest and disease threats.
DRIP IRRIGATION
Usage
of drip irrigation system helps to have accurate
and timely irrigation during the crop life
cycle. This low pressure micro irrigation
(drip) system increases profitability in several
ways:

Greater water use efficiency

Elimination of water stress
- Delivery
of liquid feed (fertigation) systems.
FERTIGATION
The
use of drip irrigation enables precise and
timely application of water direct to the
plant roots. It facilitate the application
of water soluble fertilisers in the irrigation
water as a liquid feed. Following are advantages
over conventional fertilisers:

- Constant
feed avoids periods of over/under supply
