Ampara made Gherkins and peppers to fly

The embassy of the United States of America in a statement issued said that Gherkins and peppers cultivated in Ampara soon will end up in Mcdonalds and Heinz in Europe, New Zealand and Japan.

August tea exports jump 41%, set for year record

Sri Lanka's tea exports rose more than 40 percent in the first eight months of the year and are on track to earn a record 1.4 billion dollars this year, the tea board said Thursday.

Tea shipments climbed 41 percent to 883 million dollars from January to August over the same period a year earlier, helped by strong demand from Russia and the oil exporting nations of the Middle East, the Sri Lanka Tea Board said in a statement. More>>

Sri Lankan export of cloves this year is expected to hit record levels for the first time in the history of the crop when exports will surpass the 5000 tonnes figure and foreign exchange earnings will be over Rs.3 billion, according to Past Chairman of the Spices and Allied Products Producers and Traders Association (SAPPTA) Gulam Chatoor.
