Foreign Trade
France is the world’s second largest exporter of services and farm products and fourth largest exporter of goods (principally durables). In 1997 it had a trade surplus of 173.4 billion francs ($ 28.9 billion) and in 1996 French exports totalled 1,886 billion francs ($ 314.3 billion), 24% of GDP.

Sri Lanka's Trade Relation with France
Sri Lanka’s trade with France has been in favour of Sri Lanka in the past years. Exports have increased from Rs. 3,948.5 million in 1992 to Rs. 6,491.3 million in 1998, while imports have increased from Rs. 1,853.0 million in 1992 to Rs. 4,717.6 million in 1998.

The above table indicates that the trade balance has been in favour of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka’s major exports to France are garments, apparel clothing, accessories of rubber, tyres and tubes, toys, games and sports requisites and parts thereof, rubber footwear, tea packets and tea in bulk.

Sri Lanka’s major imports from France are electrical machinery and parts, textile fabrics, cotton, chemicals, machinery, pharmaceuticals, sugar and active yeast.
