Opportunity Analysis
From the findings of the desk research, it could be noted that Sweden is a potential market for Sri Lankan products. It is observed that there is high potential to increase the market share of most of the products that are being exported to this market. Information gathered from published data shows that the Swedish market is a highly sophisticated market, where the buyer expects high quality goods, packaging, labelling in accordance with standard requirements and timely delivery. The distribution channels are well defined and the customs and other facilities are streamlined, thus giving the exporter easy access to the market. However, the exporter must keep in mind to adhere to the requirements and procedures when doing business with
Swedish buyers. Although Sweden is considered to be a rich country, the Swedish consumer knows exactly what they want for the money they pay. Thus, it could be concluded that this market expects products of high quality for reasonable prices.

Sweden is still an unsaturated market comparatively to the EU, for products from the South East Asian region. Therefore it is a market with potential to expand and exploit.

Sweden is one of the countries that records a "very high per capita" in the region. Therefore, products in this market fetch a better price (per unit). Among the products that have potential in this market are wooden handicrafts, coir based products, herbal tea, handloom fabric and articles of handloom and jewellery (with precious and semi-precious stones).

There are also a number of development programmes carried out by various Swedish Government and Non-Government institutions to help developing countries introduce and sell their products in Sweden. Institutions such as " SWEDECORP", promotes the development of trade and industries in third world countries. The EDB is in contact with these organizations and have inquired about technical assistance from these institutions in organizing business missions to Sweden.

Selling to Sweden will open out opportunities to capture the neighbouring Scandinavian markets such as Finland and Norway.
