Proposed Market Research and Development Programmes for the Target Market
It is proposed that a research study in the Sweden market should be undertaken, in order to identify potential Sri Lankan products with a sufficient supply base that has high demand in Sweden. While identifying these products, a comprehensive study must be done to identify market characteristics/behaviour, distribution channels, segmentation, preferences and product adaptation. This study could be extended to identify products that are already in the Swedish market but having potential to increase its share.
In this regard, special attention should be given to ceramic and porcelain products, clothing accessories of leather, steel furniture and moulded articles, leather travel goods and aquarium fish. These products have less than 1% share of the total exports to Sweden.

Once this research is done, it is proposed to arrange a buyer/seller mission to Sweden with around 8-10 Sri Lankan exporters manufacturing products identified by the study.

However, as a mission only to Sweden will not be beneficial to Sri Lanka. It is proposed that a few countries in the NORDIC region (Sweden, Denmark and Norway) should also be covered.
