Other major imports are fertilizer, petroleum and petroleum
products and transport equipment.
Imports declined sharply in 1996. Slowdown in exports caused
producers to cut back on production levels, reducing the need
for imports of machinery and demand for raw materials and parts/components
used in the production of export products also declined.

Other major exports are rice, tapioca products, tin, kapok fibre,
coffee, tobacco and maize.
Thailand's exports soared 20% in 1995 and then declined to a
record negative growth in 1996. This sudden reversal can be
attributed to increased competitive pressure from other developing
countries in textiles and other labour-intensive industries
and reactionary declines in primary export products after the
high growth in the previous year. While exports to Asia did
grow in 1996 it was due largely to rising exports to China and
Taiwan. Export to ASEAN countries remained static.
Major Markets (1996)
USA, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, EU and Middle East.
