Market Research and Development Programmes for the Target Market |
In the short term, it may become necessary to study the impact of
the present financial crisis on our exports to Thailand. Also examine
opportunities that may have risen, following the crisis such as buyers
preference now for certain products which Sri Lanka could supply on
account of these being considered cheaper substitutes for what are
becoming more expensive products. In addition, to identify such products
and conduct market research and to find out the prospects for these
in the Thai market, taking into account demand, distribution, competition,
market trends and Sri Lanka's supply capability.
In studying imports to Thailand from Sri Lanka and other countries
(particularly the neighbouring countries), in recent years, it is
noted that the following products may have potential to increase share
in the Thai market. It is suggested that market research be undertaken
to find out prospects for these in the Thai market. The include coconut
shell, charcoal, activated carbon, jewellery, tyres and tubes, bristle
fibre twisted, woven fabrics, cut flowers and foliage plants, crabs,
tea bags, toys and games/sports requisites and parts.
In addition, joint ventures in the electronic component sector and
agro-based products sector could also be promoted.
Sri Lanka could also participate in a suitable trade fair in Thailand,
with a view to gaining exposure for our products and further penetrating
this market. |
