The Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS), the apex body of the ICT industry, will host INFOTEL 2019, the national ICT exhibition, for the 27th consecutive year with the presence of Minister of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology and INFOTEL Steering Committee 2019 Chairman Ajith P. Perera, at the Ministry of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology.

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) is implementing a national programme to nurture 2000 new entrepreneurs to become exporters during the period 2017 - 2022 at regional level. The main objective of this programme is to encourage domestic enterprises to invest in export industries to achieve the overall export target of US $ 28 billion in 2022. Accordingly, the EDB has initiated integrated product and market development programmes for export potential SMEs, already registered with “2000 New Exporters Development Programme” to be developed as exporters in 2017-2022.

SLASSCOM and Norway sign 2-year agreement to collaborate on ICT development and entrepreneurship

The Sri Lanka Association of Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs entered into a two-year agreement to foster collaboration in the ICT industry. The newly-appointed Norwegian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trine Jøranli Eskedal and SLASSCOM Chairman Ranil Rajapakse signed the agreement.

EDB Assists Export Oriented Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs at "Shilpa Sena" Science and Technology Exhibition

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) has launched a national program to nurture 2,000 new entrepreneurs to be exporters during the period 2017 - 2022, at regional level. The main objective of the program is to encourage domestic enterprises to invest in export industries to achieve the overall export target of US $ 28 billion in 2022. Simultaneously, new entrants have gained opportunities in local and international marketing experience. Accordingly 2000 non-exporter entrepreneurs are planned to be transformed into exporters through capacity, product and market development programmes.

The course duration was 10 days including a one-day study tour.

Four decades since ‘visionary’ Export Development Act

“This Act is truly visionary; I wish other countries had this in their export development framework!”, remarked a senior official of the Geneva-based International Trade Centre to me some months back. He was referring to the ‘Sri Lanka Export Development Act No. 40 of 1979’, which marks 40 years this month. He had found it to be an institutional arrangement that was far ahead of its time, and is still having relevance today – not just for Sri Lanka, but also for other developing countries. And he would know, having worked on export development strategies for over a dozen countries around the world.

The trademark supports growers, processors and manufacturers by helping them to clearly identify their products as ‘Sri Lankan Made’ and informs customers and consumers that all significant parts, produce, processing and products are of genuine Sri Lankan origin.

The anniversary celebration consisted of a multi-religious event, an all-night pirith chanting and alms giving for 40 Buddhist monks.
