Siyaka tea market forecast
Daily
News / Wednesday, 13 February 2008
Tea outlook 2008:
Market
prospects for Ceylon tea in 2008 look optimistic. Local and global
factors would play a part in a year full of opportunity and some uncertainty.
Low grown teas; together with whole and semi leaf grades from other
elevations will enjoy good marketing conditions throughout 2008.
Price
levels set in 2007 should hold, other than during high producing period
of Q2 when we could see comparatively lower prices if a production
surge does take place. Small leaf grades from higher elevations too
should follow a similar pattern. In this instance however external
factors may influence prices even during rush months of Q2. More>>

Crude
oil with made in Sri Lanka label?:
Government
gives solid start to dream project
Daily
News / Wednesday, 13 February 2008
H.L. Kak
The
Sri Lankan Petroleum Development Ministry, according to media reports,
has received six bids from three foreign companies for oil exploration
in its northwestern offshore Mannar basin.
This
marks the successful start of Sri Lanka's first ever bid round. This
is a really great achievement given the barriers they had to overcome.
The disadvantages are all too obvious high country risk due to the
war, the proximity of these offshore blocks to past sea battles, virgin/unproven
territory label, etc. ONGC's decision to question the petroleum prospects
publicly and pull out of the block granted through a government-to-government
deal while the bidding was taking place also added further problems.
