The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BoI) signed agreements four new projects to the tune of Rs. 2.6 billion.

The agreement signed with Asian Academy of Aeronautics is for a project to set up a flying training facility which will provide pilot training for abinition level to commercial pilot license. More>>

Polonnaruwa aquarium fish growers receive grant assistance

With the objective of converting the Polonnaruwa District as the hub of Aquatic fish export in Sri Lanka several measures are being implemented by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board.

After undertaking a preliminary survey of the Aquarium fish growers in the district covering areas of Medirigiriya, Hingurakgoda, Thamankaduwa, Dimbulagala, Elahara and Walinkanda the Polonnaruwa Aquarium Fish Grower Association was setup with the active involvement of the District Secretary and the National Aquatic Development Authority. India should now remove the CAP on Pepper

In December 2006 the Government of India took a decision to introduce a CAP on the import of Pepper from Sri Lanka into India under the Indo Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (ISFTA).

Before the introduction of this CAP of 2500 tonnes, Pepper was freely imported into India under the ISFTA since 2003 with no quantitative restrictions, stated Mr. Gulam Chatoor, a Past Chairman of Spices and Allied Products (SAPPTA). More>>

Tea production in June up by 16.2%

The Sri Lanka Tea Board announced that, the total reported production of tea in Sri Lanka during June 2008, amounted to 27,310,825kg as against 23,494,701kg, produced during the corresponding month in 2007. This shows an increase of 3,816,124kg or 16.2%.The total tea production during the period January to June 2008 amounted to 171,330,488kg, as against 143,634,531kg, produced during the corresponding period of 2007, indicating an increase of 27,695,957kg or 19.3%.
