    Sim Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., together with its partner companies: Cable Solutions, Aluflex Lanka, Prime Packaging and Quality Floors, celebrated 22 glorious years of its commercial operations at an event held at Taj Vivanta Colombo, Airport Garden Hotel on 26th October 2023.

    To mark the occasion, Mr Pawan Tejwani, on behalf of the senior management team welcomed industry leaders from diverse business sectors and thanked them for their continued support over the years, to grow and build the business to what it is today – a total solutions provider serving large multinationals and local enterprises.

    Mr. Tejwani also expressed his gratitude to the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, who assisted in featuring the company on the global stage, especially its products for the electronics industry.

    Sri Lankan Electronics and Electrical Sector Excels at Productronica 2019 in Germany

    “Participation of an international exhibition/fair of this magnitude can undoubtedly give us lot of exposure in terms of new leads, competitors & collaboration possibilities” said, Mr. Sumedha Rubasinghe, Founder, CEO – of Entgra (Pvt) Ltd.

    Sri Lankan Electronics and Electrical Sector companies were benefited by the first ever Sri Lanka participation at Productronica 2019 in Germany organized by Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) from 12th – 15th November 2019 at MESSE MÜNCHEN, Germany with the assistance of Embassy of Sri Lanka in Germany and Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Frankfurt.

    Four (4) Sri Lankan medium to large scale Electronics and Electrical sector companies namely, Cables Solutions Pvt Ltd, Entgra Pvt Ltd, Kelani Cables PLC, and Vario Systems Pvt Ltd have participated as exhibitors at this event with the aim of promoting Electronic & Electrical sector, which has been identified as one of the focused sectors in the National Export Strategy (NES).

    The total businesses expected to be generated is around USD 3.3 to 5.3 mn and around 65 business linkages are under negotiations and to be confirmed by end 2020.

    The Sri Lankan exhibitors at Productronica 2019 has also showcased their products and services at SEMICON Europa, the largest European electronics platform connecting Industry Leaders across the entire Manufacturing Supply Chain from every segment and sector of the European microelectronics industries including Semiconductors, LEDs, MEMS, Printed/ Organic/ Flexible, and other adjacent markets.

    Moreover, the EDB is hoping to organize a Sri Lanka Pavillion at Electronica 2020 in the same venue for the betterment of the Sri Lankan Electronics and Electrical Sector.

    Vario Systems AG stated that the total business expected to be generated is around USD 3 to 5 mn. Met new and potential customers, understood what the competitors are doing, and gained new technologies, used as a platform to invite existing customers. It is important to participate in these kind of global trade fairs to meet buyers/suppliers, and customers in different market segments.

    Cable Solutions (Pvt) Ltd was able to acquire around USD 0.2 mn – USD 0.3mn worth of contracts from the first time participation. Understood the concepts of presenting at a global exhibition with an exposure to the European Market. Visitors who we had worked had the opportunity to see our product range for the first time. The visitor profile and size of the exhibition does allow to make new aspects and opportunities in the business which otherwise could not happen with self-marketing.

    Kelani Cables PLC the major benefit of participation was the broader knowledge gained in the vast European market for wire harnesses. Europe is a quality focus market and it is a golden opportunity for Sri Lankan companies in the Electronic and Electrical sector who participated at this Trade Fair.

    Entgra (Pvt) Ltd was able to connect with highly relevant few leads that can possibly be converted into customers. Furthermore, Participation of an international exhibition/fair of this magnitude can undoubtedly give us lot of exposure in terms of new leads, competitors & collaboration possibilities.

    Productronica India, International Exhibition and Conference for Electronic Production Technologies took place for 3 days from Wednesday 26th September to Friday 28th September 2018 at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC).

    The EDB has organized a Sri Lanka Country Pavilion at this fair to enhance Sri Lanka’s Electronic & Electrical exports to the world. Sri Lankan exhibitors also explored the new technology of the EEM sector and understood different strategies used by their competitors to enter the Global Value Chain.

    Accordingly, 4 Sri Lankan companies have participated namely, Hitech Solutions Pvt Ltd, Sanota Private Limited, Jinasena (Pvt) Ltd, Tos Lanka Co.(Pvt)Ltd at the exhibition and obtained contracts worth of SLR 12mn.

    Sri Lankan companies have gained more than 28 business leads, about 15 business alliances, joint venture opportunities coupled with market exposure, and studying new trends in technology and innovation by participating in the exposure visit cum business matchmaking programmes to Malaysia and Singapore for Electronics and Electrical sector organized by Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) in collaboration with High Commissions of Sri Lanka in Malaysia and Singapore from 16th -21st July 2018. The participating companies are hoping to finalize nearly US$ 1.6 million worth of contracts with Malaysian and Singaporean companies by end 2019. In addition, they are expecting to sign joint ventures and supply components and equipment to leading Malaysian and Singaporean companies in the Electronics and Electrical sector in the near future.

    This programme has generated tremendous opportunities for the Electronics and Electrical sector companies in Sri Lanka to understand the capabilities of Malaysian and Singaporean counterparts and opportunities available in the Electronics and Electrical industry in these countries.

    A comprehensive market study carried out by the Export Services Division of the EDB also revealed that there is a huge potential in Malaysia and Singapore for Sri Lankan Electronics and Electrical sector exporters to increase their presence in these two countries further.

    The Sri Lankan delegation consisted six medium to large scale Sri Lankan Electronics and Electrical sector companies. They were TOS Lanka, Kelani Cables, KIK Lanka, Frostaire Industries, T&G Lanka, and Hitech Solutions.

    In Singapore, business matchmaking meetings were held at Singapore Business Federation (SBF), Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF), and Enterprise Singapore with the participation of large number of Singaporean Electronics and Electrical Sector companies and buyers.

    In Malaysia, business matchmaking meetings were held at Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and Electrical and Electronics Association of Malaysia (TEEAM) with the participation of large number of Malaysian Electronics and Electrical Sector companies and buyers.

    During the field visits in Malaysia, the Sri Lankan delegation visited Khind-Mistral Industries and TAMCO Switchgear (Malaysia).

    Similarly, during the field visits in Singapore, the Sri Lankan delegation visited Rolls Royce and Wilson Cables.

    The Sri Lankan delegation also visited “Tenaga Kuala Lumpur” Exhibition 2018, one of the leading trade fairs for Electricity and Electronics industry in Southeast Asia.

    A warm welcome was received for the Sri Lankan delegation from H.E Mr. A. J. M. Muzammil, High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Malaysia and H.E. Mr. Nimal Weeraratne, High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Singapore.

    The EDB is planning to organize similar programmes in other countries to explore business opportunities for Sri Lankan Electronics and Electrical Sector in the future.

    Sri Lankan companies have gained many business leads, joint venture opportunities, market exposure, and new trends in technology and innovation by the exposure visit cum business matchmaking programmes to Vietnam and Thailand organized by Sri Lanka Export Development Board (SLEDB) in collaboration with Sri Lanka Embassies in Vietnam and Thailand from 04th to 08th September 2017. This programme has generated tremendous opportunities for the Electronics and Electrical sector companies in Sri Lanka to understand the capabilities of Vietnamese and Thai counterparts and opportunities available in the Electronics and Electrical industry.

    Six medium to large scale Sri Lankan Electronics and Electrical Sector companies visited this delegation with SLEDB. They are TOS Lanka, Lanka Harness, Kelani Cables, Sierra Cables, St.Theresa Industries, and Hitech Solutions.

    The Sri Lankan delegation received a warm welcome from H.E. Ms. Hasanthi Dissanayake, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Vietnam and Mr. Anil Sirimanne , First Secretary –Commercial of Embassy of Sri Lanka in Thailand.

    Two business matchmaking meetings were held in Hanoi, Vietnam and in Bangkok, Thailand with the participation of large number of Vietnamese and Thai Electronics and Electrical Sector companies and buyers.

    In Vietnam, the Sri Lankan delegation visited HANAKA Group, KCI VINA (EMS), Foxconn Electronics, and Vina Solar Technology Co., Ltd during their visit to the industrial zones in Bac Ninh Province, Vinh Phuc Province, and Bac Giang Province and also met the top officials of the People’s Committees in respective provinces. In addition, they met and discussed with Vietnam Electronics Industries Association (VEIA), Foreign Investment Agency (FIA), Vietnam Institute of Electronics, Informatics and Automation (VIELINA).

    In Thailand, the Sri Lankan delegation visited Bangkok Electric & Electronics and RHVAC (Refrigeration, Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning) Exhibition 2017 and also met and discussed with Thai Electrical and Mechanical Contractors Association (TEMCA), The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), Electrical, Electronics and Allied Industry Club (EETIC), and Thai Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunication Industries Association (TETA). In addition, they also visited Summit Electronic Component CO. LTD.

    TOS Lanka is hoping to finalize US$ 50,000 and US$ 70,000 worth of contracts in Vietnam and Thailand respectively within next year.

    Sierra Cables and Kelani Cables are working with Dung Giang Trading Company to bid for a Rural Electrification Project in Vietnam. This project is over 3000 billion USD project and supply electricity for throughout the 25 provinces in Vietnam. Sierra cables all seek the possibility to get required standards & product approval to tie up with distributors to do a project for convert the overhead power transmission line to underground High Voltage line in Thailand. with the assistance of Thai Electrical & Mechanical Contractors Association (TEMCA), Metropolitan Electrical Authority (MEA), and Provincial Electricity Electrical Authority (PEEA).

    St. Theresa Industries Private Limited is to work with the Vietnam Electricity (EVN) main utility company in Vietnam for Power and Energy, following up with two partner companies to invest in Vietnam if the demand matches. They also found a JV partner in Vietnam to supply to EVN. They found a partner in Thailand for the projects in Sri Lanka and potential supplier for certain energy related products. They also found a possible buyer from Thailand for Transmission Towers. They are expected to finalize US$ 132,000 worth of contracts in Vietnam and Thailand in year 2018.

    Lanka Harness Company is hoping to provide automobile sensor harnesses for the newly built Vietnamese vehicle assembly plant. They are also expecting to supply products to Thailand market because of the Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protection facility which they have.

    Hitech Solutions Pvt Ltd is going to use social media marketing to Sell their Fabric related Machines to the Vietnam market. Also, they are going to start an Automation Company in Thailand to get the technology from Thailand to Sri Lanka via Industrial Automation or find inverters from Thailand. They are expected to finalize US$ 30,000 worth of contracts in Vietnam and US$ 5,000 worth of contracts in and Thailand in year 2018.

    The SLEDB will hope to organize similar programmes in other countries to explore business opportunities for Sri Lankan Electronics and Electrical Sector in the future.

    Sri Lankan companies have gained market exposure, new trends in technology and innovation, how to enter in to the automobile market as a tier 2 supplier, and many business leads by the two business matchmaking programmes in Chennai and Bangalore, Exhibition visits, and factory visits from the business matchmaking and exposure programme organized by Sri Lanka Export Development Board (SLEDB) in collaboration with Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) from 20th to 24th September 2016 in South India. This programme has generated tremendous opportunities for the Electronics and Electrical sector companies in Sri Lanka to understand the capabilities of Indian counterparts and opportunities available in Indian Electronics and Electrical industry.

    Six medium to large scale Sri Lankan Electronics and Electrical Sector companies visited this delegation with SLEDB. They are TOS Lanka, Lanka Harness, Kelani Cables, KIK Group, Lanka Hiqu, and Hitech Solutions.

    Two business matchmaking meetings were held in Chennai and Bangalore with the participation of large number of Indian Electronics and Electrical Sector companies. The Sri Lankan companies also visited Electronica and Productronica 2016 Exhibition in Bangalore and also had discussions with top Indian associations and Institutes like Automotive Component Manufactures Association (ACMA), India Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers Association (IEEMA), Consortium of Electronic Industries of Karnataka (CLIK), Sipcot Irrungattukottai Manufactures Association (SIMA), and Central Power Research Institute (CPRI). In addition, they also visited Renault Nissan Corporation in Chennai and Toyota Motor Corporation in Bangalore.

    The main aim of this programme was to create Joint Ventures, to find new contacts and new markets, to enhance business relations with existing contacts, explore Indian electronics and electrical markets and new trends in technology and innovation, and to export certain components to electronics & electrical Sector in India to increase electronics and electrical sector exports.
