Other Export Crops
In addition to Ceylon Tea, rubber, fruits, vegetables and Ceylon Spices, Sri Lanka also produces a rich variety of other crops for exportation. This consists of crops like betel leaves, areca nuts, cocoa, and vanilla. The majority of such non-traditional organic products are being produced by small scale farmers. The indigenous knowledge of the farmers aligns with modern green concepts and makes a minimal impact on the environment. Sri Lanka’s diverse climatic conditions that enable cultivating a range of organic products, and the availability of local resources & skilled labour, flexible operations, and compliance with international standards all contribute towards making this industry sustainable and profitable in the long run.
