Kohoku Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., part of Kohoku Kogyo Co. Ltd., is a Sri Lankan company located in Katunayake that manufactures and distributes optical use electronic components and electronic coils.

The origin of the company, dates back to 1870 when the Merkel family, the ancestors of the present owners of Eskimo, set up a business to produce knitted gloves and socks near the town of Chemnitz in Saxony. Over the past hundred years what started as a family business, developed its core competence in knitwear and started manufacturing operations first in Europe then in Asia. Due to ever increasing manufacturing costs in Europe a decision was taken to relocate production to Asia.

In September 1986, we established a local subsidiary, USUI LANKA (PVT) LTD., in Sri Lanka. At the factory, all of the work processes for making brushes from the basic materials (wooden shafts, metal fittings, and raw hair (pre-haired)) are carried out. There are various large and small buildings on the site of about 12,000 square meters, and there are currently 262 employees working there.

Local young people are hired, and after completing training, they are assigned as worker → subleader → leader → assistant supervisor → supervisor (the highest rank in the section) Works at every stage of the department. In addition, there is a training system at a Japanese factory as an education unique to the Uranika. The people who participated in this training in the past now support the factory as on-site managers. It creates many employment opportunities for local youth and contributes to the economy of Sri Lanka.
