Sri Lanka Export Development Board is organising Sri Lanka participation at “Source Fashion Exhibition” to be held in the United Kingdom from 13th to 15th January 2026 for Sri Lanka Apparel Sector companies.
With the implementation of the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS) in early 2026, new market opportunities will open since liberalized Rules of Origin under DCTS will allow a wider range of Sri Lankan garment products to qualify for zero tariffs, even when incorporating inputs sourced from other countries across Asia and Africa. This will significantly lower production costs, increase sourcing flexibility, and enhance Sri Lanka’s competitiveness.
The Source Fashion show is the leading sourcing exhibition in the UK, attracting sourcing professionals from over 1,000 UK and European retailers, including Tesco, ASOS, and John Lewis. Its July 2025 edition recorded 51% increase in visitors compared to July 2024, reaching over 3200 attendees with 95% holding sole or joint purchasing power. Exhibitors represented 22 countries.
Sri Lanka’s garment exports gain tariff-free access to the UK from 1st January 2026, marking a significant boost for the country’s apparel sector. Under the newly liberalised trade rules, Sri Lankan garment manufacturers can source up to 100% of their inputs from any country worldwide while maintaining tariff-free entry to the UK market. The revised framework removes previous constraints by reducing processing requirements, including the elimination of the rule that required two substantial manufacturing processes to take place in Sri Lanka, thereby enhancing flexibility and competitiveness for exporters.
