The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Association for Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM), held a meeting with Senior Police Officials to discuss measures to expedite the issuance of police clearance reports for employees of Sri Lankan Information and Communication Technology (ICT) companies. The discussion focused particularly on employees who require police clearance reports to fulfil international client requirements, participate in overseas business opportunities and meet eligibility criteria for international tenders and bidding processes.
Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe, Chairman & CEO of EDB highlighted the challenges faced by ICT companies due to delays in obtaining police clearance reports. This was emphasized by SLASSCOM that the timely issuance of these reports is essential for meeting international compliance requirements, completing client onboarding procedures and ensuring the uninterrupted participation of Sri Lankan ICT professionals in global business engagements. Addressing these administrative delays is therefore important to enhancing the competitiveness of Sri Lanka’s ICT industry in international markets.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe, Chairman & CEO of EDB Mr. S. H. D. Jagath Chandrakumara, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ms. Chaminda De Silva, Executive Director of SLASSCOM, Mr. Omar Hassen, Board Director of SLASSCOM, Ms. Indumini Kodikara, Director Export Services EDB, Mr. Dinesh Attanayake, Assistant Director, Export Services - EDB and Chief Inspector (CI) Mr. J. The SSP responded positively to the concerns raised by the EDB and SLASSCOM and agreed to take appropriate steps to expedite the relevant procedures. The initiative underscores the EDB’s continued commitment to facilitating export growth by working closely with relevant government institutions and industry stakeholders to identify and address operational barriers faced by Sri Lankan exporters. It also demonstrates the importance of effective public private sector collaboration in creating a more responsive and business-friendly environment for the ICT/BPM industry.
Through this collaborative effort the EDB and SLASSCOM aim to strengthen institutional coordination, improve the efficiency of administrative processes and facilitate the timely fulfilment of international business requirements by Sri Lankan ICT professionals. These efforts are expected to support the international expansion of local ICT companies, enhance their competitiveness in global markets, and contribute to the sustainable growth of Sri Lanka’s ICT/BPM exports and digital economy.
