A delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) paid an official courtesy visit to the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), marking an important engagement between the two institutions to review their longstanding partnership and discuss future initiatives aimed at strengthening Sri Lanka’s export development and economic growth.

The visit introduced the newly appointed JICA Chief Representative of the JICA Sri Lanka Office, Mr. Shigeo Honzu, while also acknowledging the contribution of the outgoing JICA Chief Representative, Mr. Kenji Kuronuma, who played a significant role in advancing cooperation between JICA and Sri Lanka during his tenure.

During the meeting, the JICA delegation held discussions with the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe along with Mr. Erandika Dissanayake, Acting Director General of EDB and other EDB officials.

The discussions focused on the successful collaboration between EDB and JICA over the past years, highlighting the impact of joint programmes, capacity-building initiatives, technical cooperation and support extended towards enhancing Sri Lanka’s export competitiveness.

EDB officials expressed their appreciation for JICA’s continued partnership and contribution towards strengthening Sri Lanka’s export and investment ecosystem. The meeting also explored future areas of cooperation, including new initiatives to support exporters, improve market access, enhance institutional capabilities and promote sustainable export growth.

Mr. Shigeo Honzu emphasized the importance of continuing the strong relationship between JICA and Sri Lankan institutions, while reaffirming JICA’s commitment to supporting development oriented programmes that contribute to economic advancement.

The courtesy call also provided an opportunity to recognize Mr. Kenji Kuronuma’s valuable service and commitment in fostering closer cooperation between Japan and Sri Lanka. His tenure contributed to further strengthening the partnership between JICA and EDB through collaborative efforts focused on national development priorities.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment from both organizations to continue working together on future projects and initiatives that will create greater opportunities for Sri Lankan exporters and contribute to the country’s economic progress.
