The National Organic Control Unit (NOCU) being the competent authority for the organic agriculture sector has taken initiatives to establish the credibility of the Sri Lankan organic products both locally and internationally. Certified organic products will increase the confidence in consumers and will yield a higher demand in global trade. The NOCU has made arrangements to carry out an awareness promotion on Sri Lankan Organic Standard and Logo at Sial Paris at Hall 5C- H265-2 from 17th -21st October 2026, with the long-term objective of positioning the Sri Lankan Organic standard 1324:2025 and Sri Lankan Organic Logo in important international markets and thereby reducing the trade cost to exporters.
The organic agricultural export sector of Sri Lanka has significantly developed during the last 30 years contributing foreign exchange to the country. Sri Lanka is gaining recognition for organic products gradually in the international markets. Improving the awareness about Sri Lanka Organic Standard (SLS 1324:2025) and Sri Lanka Organic Logo will increase the credibility of the Sri Lankan products internationally. The National Organic Control Unit organizes programme towards establishing the recognition to Sri Lanka Organic Standard (SLS 1324:2025) & Sri Lanka Organic Logo popularizing the Sri Lankan Products.
As Organic standards limit the use of synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilizers, antibiotics, and genetically modified organisms (GMOs), organic products are recognized as immunity boosting safer for consumers products in main organic consumer markets namely EU, Australia and USA The World organic market exceeded Euro145Bn in 2024 and over 188 countries are engaged in organic activities with over 99 million hectares of farm lands according to the international organic statistics.
