Sri Lanka Export Development Board organized the Technical Exposure programme & the product display parallel to “Style Bangkok 2025” for the Sri Lankan export potential SME companies in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Thailand from 01st to 06th April 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Prior to the exhibition, the SMEs participated in a training and knowledge-sharing session conducted by the Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (SACIT), in Ayutthaya under the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand. The Embassy also organized a meeting with members of the Creative Club of the Federation of Thai Industries on the topic of  “Export of Lifestyle Products to the International market”.

Information desk of EDB and a product display of 09 export ready SMEs was organized at the Style Bangkok 2025 exhibition to provide credentials and recognition for the Sri Lankan Lifestyle, Gifts and Handicraft sector.

The Sri Lankan Product Display was officially opened by H.E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Mrs. E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, who commended the Sri Lanka’s talented artisans and the Sri Lanka Export Development Board for their efforts in promoting Sri Lankan craftsmanship on international platforms. The main objectives of participation at this international event are to provide international market exposure for SMEs, to showcase  export potential Sri Lankan products in Thailand market and to develop potential exporters under New Exporter Development Programme (NEDP) of EDB.

The participation of Sri Lankan artisans reflected Sri Lanka’s commitment to supporting SMEs and promoting our rich artistic legacy.  The positive response received at Style Bangkok 2025 reinforces the global appeal of Sri Lankan lifestyle, gifts and handicrafts such as Ceramic products, Hand-made clay jewellery, natural fiber products, baby items, plush toys, rubber stamps, handmade greeting cards etc and encouraged further collaborations and market expansion.

“Style Bangkok 2025” in Thailand is one of Asia’s premier lifestyle, fashion and crafts trade fairs.  The exhibition provided a platform for industry players to increase diversification, achieve new growth prospects, witness innovations, optimize operations, and created stakeholder value.  The event brought together designers, artisans, and entrepreneurs from around the world to celebrate creativity, innovations, and sustainable design.  Therefore, it provided valuable networking opportunities for Sri Lanka with global retailers, interior designers, and lifestyle brand representatives. 

Bangkok is a hub for the lifestyle and handicraft sector in Southeast Asia, and significantly influences regional trends, with well-established supply chains and access to international markets. Entering this market allows Sri Lankan companies to leverage Thailand’s strategic position and tap into its extensive export networks.

Participants received a number of positive inquiries, some of which are currently in the negotiation stage, indicating potential business opportunities.  Beyond commercial prospects, the event offered invaluable exposure to global trends and best practices, especially in maintaining the quality of crafts. The participants gained deep insights into modern craftsmanship, value addition techniques, and the importance of sustainability.  The emphasis on eco-friendly practices, upcycling, and the use of recycled raw materials in handicrafts broadened their understanding and inspired innovative approaches for future product development.
