A delegation from the Canton Fair Operations Department of China visited Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) on 30th August 2024 to scale up trade relationship between the two countries through participating at trade promotional events such as Canton Fair 2024.

As per the provisional data released by the Sri Lanka Customs, the merchandise export performance in July 2024 amounted to US$ 1,087.6 million, recorded an increase of 6.58 % compared to the month of July 2023. This was mainly due to the increase in earnings from export of Apparel & Textiles, Tea, Coconut based products, Spices & Concentrates and Seafood.

National Organic Control Unit (NOCU) - the competent authority for Organic Agriculture in Sri Lanka, established under the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) - launched its initiative to promote Organic Agriculture islandwide recently. As part of this effort, the first awareness program- was successfully conducted in Kegalle District on the 25th of July at Sleek Hotel and demonstrating an encouraging turnout about 80 attendees actively took part at the event. The programme also highlighted the contribution of NOCU to organic farming in terms of its role to promote a credible organic agriculture value chain. The participants, representing various sectors of the agriculture industry, gained valuable insights into organic farming techniques, certification processes, organic standards, and market opportunities.
