A one-day capacity development workshop on “Costing & Pricing for the Natural Ingredients Sector in the EU Market” was successfully held on 29th October 2025 at the Training Arena, 3rd Floor, DHPL Building, Colombo 02, jointly organized by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) and the Import Promotion Desk (IPD) Germany.
The programme was designed to enhance the technical and market readiness of Sri Lankan SMEs in the natural ingredients sector, with a focus on improving their capacity to compete effectively in the European Union (EU) market. This initiative forms part of the ongoing cooperation between EDB and IPD to strengthen export-oriented enterprises through knowledge transfer and market access facilitation.

Two key technical sessions were conducted by external consultant from IPD Germany together with the EDB officers trained by IPD, focusing on Costing and Pricing for the EU Market and the Preparation of Technical Data Sheets. These sessions provided participants with practical guidance on determining cost structures, setting competitive export prices, and preparing accurate product documentation all critical elements for building trust and credibility with EU buyers.

Participants gained a deeper understanding of how to strategically price their products to meet EU market expectations while ensuring business sustainability. The session on technical data sheets offered hands-on instruction on compiling essential product information, ensuring compliance with EU quality, safety, and traceability standards.

The workshop brought together SMEs participating in the EDB–IPD Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme and the IPD Sourcing Mission, creating a valuable forum for learning, experience sharing, and networking among emerging exporters from the natural ingredients sector.

The collaboration between EDB and IPD, which began in 2019, continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing the competitiveness of Sri Lankan SMEs in the natural ingredients sector by strengthening their technical and market access capacities.
Through such joint initiatives, the EDB remains committed to supporting local exporters in achieving greater integration into global value chains, particularly in high-potential markets such as the European Union.
