A regional consultation workshop was successfully held today (09th) in Kandy as part of an initiative launched by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to develop the National Export Development Plan (2025-2029).
Representatives from chambers of commerce, export organizations, and government institutions representing various provinces participated in the workshop to contribute their insights to shape the country's export strategy for the next five years. This initiative aims to strengthen the country's export competitiveness and drive sustainable economic growth.
The workshop witnessed participation from various institutions representing provinces and districts across the island. Representatives from the Kurunegala District included the North Western Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Puttalam District Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agribusiness, the Industrial Services Bureau, Ceylon Exporters (Pvt) Ltd, Exporters Association of Coconut Based Substrates (EACBS) and Ceylon Aquatics (Pvt) Ltd.
Representing the Southern Province, the Galle, Matara, and Hambantota District Chambers of Commerce participated alongside the Southern Province Development Authority (SPDA) and the Southern Province Industrial Development Authority (SPIDA).
Representing the Central Province were the Kandy District Secretariat, the Department of Export Agriculture, the Industrial Development Board (IDB) – Kandy, the Kegalle District Chamber of Commerce, the Central Province Women’s Chamber of Commerce, the University of Peradeniya, senior professors from the University of Peradeniya's Faculty of Agriculture, Engineering and Management, ICBT – Kandy, ACBT – Kandy, ESOFT – Kandy, Mga Spice (Pvt) Ltd, Tea Seak (Pvt) Ltd, Kiyota Coffee (Pvt) Ltd, and Unik Business Solution (Pvt) Ltd.
Other regional representatives included the Northern Province Exporters' Council, the Palmirah Development Board from Jaffna, Nuwara Eliya District Chamber of Commerce, Uva Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Matale District Chamber of Commerce, and the Council of Provincial Entrepreneurs (COPE).
The National Export Development Plan (2025-2029), a collaborative effort between the Sri Lanka Export Development Board and the Asian Development Bank, represents a comprehensive strategic framework aimed at enhancing Sri Lanka's export competitiveness and diversifying its presence in global markets. Regional consultation workshops were designed to incorporate the challenges, issues, and solutions faced by exporters across different sectors and regions.
This workshop was organized as part of a series of stakeholder engagement sessions being conducted across the country by the Export Development Board in partnership with the Asian Development Bank to gather recommendations from the business community, representatives of the export sector, and government institutions before finalizing the national export strategy.
