The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) showcases Sri Lanka’s export potential at FOODEX Japan 2026, Asia’s leading international food and beverage trade fair, to be held from 10th to 13th March 2026 in Tokyo, Japan, through a dedicated EDB National Pavilion.
Seven (7) leading Sri Lankan export companies including SMEs have been selected to participate under the country pavilion, representing strategic product categories for the Japanese market including:
The project is primarily funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and implemented in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan, highlighting the strong bilateral partnership between Sri Lanka and Japan in promoting sustainable trade development and private sector growth.
As an initial step of this project a market analysis and a fact-finding mission has implemented with the view of identifying Japanese business models, market access channels, distribution systems, and factory operations. This programme aims at strengthening the commercial readiness, operational efficiency, and market adaptability of Sri Lankan exporters seeking entry into the Japanese market.
Further, a special high-level meeting has organized for EDB officials with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) and the Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS) authorities to discuss regulatory frameworks, certification requirements, legislative procedures, and future strategic alignments between Sri Lanka and Japan in the food and agricultural trade sector.
The EDB Pavilion initiative aims to strengthen Sri Lanka’s presence in the Japanese market, facilitate direct business-to-business (B2B) engagements, create new export opportunities, and position Sri Lanka as a reliable source of high-quality, safe, compliant, and value-added food and agricultural products.
This programme forms part of Sri Lanka’s broader national export development strategy to expand market access, diversify export destinations, enhance SME competitiveness, and build long-term institutional trade partnerships with key international markets.
